2/19 Let the Fragments Be Enough: An Exploration of Flash, Micro-essay, and Fragments
2/19 Let the Fragments Be Enough: An Exploration of Flash, Micro-essay, and Fragments
In today’s world of short attention spans and shorter quantities of free time, many of us feel drawn to writing and reading short pieces. In this class we will examine very short forms of creative nonfiction and try our hand and writing a few of our own. Please bring index cards or similarly sized slips of paper as well as a notebook or other writing materials.
By the end of this workshop, writers will…
Understand the difference between a fully realized flash- or micro-essay and a fragment
Discover what kind of stories are best presented in brief
Draft a small essay or two
Become familiar with magazines where such pieces can be submitted
Uncover new ideas on form and how it can breathe life into their writing practice
